Glantre designed and installed audio, lighting and stage rigging facilities to a new teaching theatre and TV studio for the University of Portsmouth.
A range of analogue and digital audio equipment was provided to complement the analogue signal distribution infrastructure. The control room incorporates patching of all I/O facilities for ultimate flexibility of the venue. The installed DSP provides audio processing for the FOH system, as well as being the core for the paging /show relay system within the building.
Dimmer racks, lighting control desk and DMX distribution equipment were installed to facilitate connection, for the range of conventional and intelligent lighting fixtures supplied. Dimmers are equipped with “Through Power” functionality to further enhance flexibility of the system.
Fixed and motorised lighting bars were also installed, alongside curtain tracks and drapes. Motorised bars are controlled with a plug in pendant and operated from stage level. A custom built stage managers desk was also provided, complete with intercom and paging controls.
The TV studio was built around the University’s existing video switcher and HDD recording solution. It was fitted out with five JVC HD cameras each with remote control and hybrid fibre camera control units, video matrix, multi-viewer, video monitoring, autocue and studio intercom.
The control room houses the production equipment in a new custom built control console with positions for Director, Lighting Technician, Vision Mixer. The Audio Operator is catered for in a separate audio booth. Hybrid fibre cable infrastructure allows the TV studio to connect cameras in both the Studio Theatre and the adjacent New Theatre Royal, providing additional functionality to these spaces and additional opportunities for students to gain experience in venues as opposed to the TV studio.
Teaching rooms on the upper floors of the building were provided with pipe grids and independent audio / lighting systems. These rooms are multi purpose and can be used for dance, performance and teaching.
