American Classic Voyages

Design of entertainment systems for main theatre, caberet lounge and all other public areas aboard two 71,000 ton cruise ships operate Hawaii inter-island service for AMCV's subsidiary American Hawaii Cruises. The vessels were constructed by Litton Industries Ingalls Shipbuilding Division, Pascagoula, Mississippi. They were the first major passenger vessels constructed in America for over 40 years as well as being the largest ever USA-built cruise ships. Glantre's entertainment design package includes full specifications and more than 80 drawings.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Destiny


Implementation of all theatrical and entertainment systems for Carnival Destiny, the world's first 100,000 ton passenger ship built by Fincantieri, Monfalcone, Italy with service entry in November 1996. Systems include stage and effects lighting, lasers, sound, communications, video, projection, effects and elaborate stage rigging and machinery. There are 21 venues including the three-deck Palladium Theatre, Criterion Lounge and Disco. Principal lighting and rigging manufacturers are ETC, High End, Wybron, JR Clancy, Delstar and Stage Technologies. Audio and video products are sourced from a wide manufacturer selection including Barco, BSS, Crest, EAW, Klark Teknik, Meyer, Panasonic, Samson, Sony, Tannoy, Tascom and Yamaha. Carnival Triumph


Design, supply and installation of rigging and stage machinery for show theatre and aft lounge aboard this 102,000 ton vessel constructed at Fincantieri, Monfalcone and delivered in 1999. The 1400 seat show theatre is similar to that aboard Carnival Destiny. Stage installations include motorised rigging with guidance system, revolving stage with motorised rising steps, orchestra pit lift, bandwagon, tracks, drapes and accessories. Control is by Stage Technologies 'Acrobat 3D!'. Contract value $4.5 million.

Celebrity Cruises, Miami, USA

Century, Galaxy & Mercury


Stage and effects lighting for the 800 seat Celebrity Theatre and Nightclub of three 72,000 ton cruise ships constructed at MeyerWerft shipyard, Papenburg, Germany in association with Funa GmbH and based on specifications of Theatre Consultants, Auerbach and Associates, USA. For each vessel, the Show Lounge includes an ETC Obsession console, 480 ETC L86 digital dimmers, 33 Cyberlight automated luminaires and over 200 ETC and Thomas luminaires, as well as HMI follow spots and effects equipment. Distribution and DMX networks also provided.

Queen Elizabeth II


Stage and effects lighting including architectural dimming for Grand Lounge and Yacht Club under 1994 major refurbishment carried out at Blohm + Voss shipyard, Hamburg. Equipment includes Celco Pathfinder and Pulsar Masterpiece controls, Strand LD90 dimmers, Mini-Scan automated luminaires, scrollers, effects, patch panel and refurbishment of existing luminaires. Disney Cruise Line, Orlando, USA

Disney Magic & Disney Wonder


Complete onboard entertainment systems under initial design contract to Owner and follow-on implementation contract to Fincantieri, Italy for two high-specification cruise ships constructed at Marghera (Venice) shipyard for 1998 and 1999 service entry. Design responsibilities include theatre consultancy, planning and acoustic services as well as detailed design of all shipwide and local entertainment systems. Shipwide systems, controlled from Broadcast Centre, consist of all satellite and in-house television equipment and distribution, together with multi-channel background music and public address. Local systems for theatre, cinema, lounges, restaurants, bars and activity areas consist of audio, video, stage lighting, stage equipment, special effects and show control. All systems employ state-of-the-art technology and are engineered to the highest standards consistent with those of Disney theme parks. In addition to design and supply, Glantre's responsibilities include cabling, installation, testing, commissioning, training and documentation.

Holland America Line, Seattle, USA

Statendam, Maasdam, Ryndam & Veendam


Design and consultancy services in association with MAVCO for stage lighting and rigging for 700 seat Show Lounge and Disco aboard four HAL cruise vessels which were constructed by Fincantieri, Italy at Monfalcone (3 vessels) and Marghera (1). The ships were delivered between 1992 and 1996 for Caribbean and worldwide cruising. The Show Lounge of each ship includes a 220 channel stage lighting system together with a computer controlled rigging system operating multi-line and point hoist suspension sets, tracking bandwagon, stage revolve, traveller tracks and special effects equipment. Standards and specifications are based on USA practice.

P&O Cruises, Southampton, UK

Aurora


Design of lighting, sound, video and integrated control systems for main theatre, aft lounge, discotheque / multipurpose venue, outdoor performance space and 12 other venues aboard this 76,000 ton vessel under construction at MeyerWerft, Papenburg, Germany. This design assignment included over 175 drawings and has resulted in state-of-the-art technical installations that are a logical evolution to those previously designed by Glantre for P&O's Arcadia and Oriana.

Arcadia


Design and implementation for the upgrade of entertainment technology installations aboard 63,500 ton Chantiers de l'Atlantique-built Star Princess, as part of transfer from Princess Cruises' USA fleet to P&O's UK fleet and conversion to Arcadia. Survey and design studies carried out for P&O with subsequent implentation carried out in Belfast under sub-contract to Harland & Wolff - Mivan Marine joint venture, Nov/Dec 1997.

Oriana


State-of-the-art entertainment systems package for the "Theatre Royal", "Pacific Lounge", "Harlequins" nightclub and eleven other venues on-board P&O Cruises' 69,000 ton new fleet flagship delivered in spring 1995 by Jos L Meyer Shipyard, Papenburg, Germany. Systems comprise stage and effects lighting, control, dimming, sound communications, video, stage tracks and drapes. Equipment includes four ETC stage lighting memory control system, Smartrack digital dimmers, 300 ADB and Thomas luminaires, Clay Paky automated luminaires, extensive sound installations with 30 radio microphones channels, eight video projectors, motorised tracks and an interactive systems package for the teenagers' room, "Decibels". Oriana operates a worldwide cruising programme with Southampton as home port

Princess Cruises, Los Angeles, USA

Grand Princess


Technical design and planning for Owner of theatrical and entertainment systems and facilities on-board 2,600 passenger 105,000 ton superliner constructed for Princess at Fincantieri shipyard, Monfalcone, Italy and delivered in 1998 with Fort Lauderdale as base port. Responsibilities include theatre consultancy, planning , acoustical services and systems design for the theatre and two show lounges which are equipped with rigging, lighting, video, audio and show control to the highest standards. Additional public areas for which entertainment systems were designed include discotheque, teen club, restaurants, bars, casino and activity areas. A subsequent contract from Fincantieri covers supply and installation of stage rigging, machinery and special equipment for the Main Theatre, Aft Lounge and Cabaret Lounge. The theatre includes 31 variable and fixed speed hoists, rear projection bridge, safety curtain, performer flying, orchestra lift, three stage lifts, understage and overhead chain drives, wagon tracks, screens, masking, drapes, main curtains and full specification Acrobat automation control system. Smaller scale installations for the other two venues include lifts, wagons, scenic rollers, tracks, drapes and controls. Principal manufacturers include JR Clancy, Stage Technologies, Serapid and Delstar. Overall contract value $4.5 million.

Sun Princess & Dawn Princess


Rigging and stage equipment for Theatre and Aft Show Lounge of two Princess 77,000 ton cruise liners delivered in 1995 (Sun) and 1997 (Dawn) at Fincantieri shipyard, Monfalcone, Italy. Scope of works includes Austrian type contoured main drape with multiple drives, lineshaft hoists, traveller tracks, projection screens, two side scenery tracks and one rear stage wagon with three integral scissor lifts. All stage machinery is motorised and under computer control. Stage drapery includes fibre-optic starcloths. Grid, galleries and floor structures were provided for Dawn Princess only. There are minor differences in the configurations of the two vessels with Dawn Princess featuring Serapid chain understage tracks and drives. Theatre Consultants, Thomas Gregor Associates, Los Angeles. Both vessels cruise in the Caribbean during winter and Alaska in summer.
