The following specialist contracts for theatres, conference halls, TV studios and general audio-visual installations have been completed or are under implementation by Glantre Engineering Ltd in Asia. Unless otherwise indicated, contracts cover detailed design, supply, installation or supervision, commissioning and training. Project listings are in approximate reverse chronological order. In addition to the contracts described, Glantre has carried out several important cruise ship entertainment contracts as well as numerous electrical and mechanical services contracts. Contract values are only shown where amounts exceed £100,000; the listings below are part of 75 such contracts, of which 17 have values in excess of £1 million. The overall value of the 170 listed entertainment projects and separately listed cruise ship projects exceeds £74 million.

Victoria Peak Development


Stage lighting, architectural lighting, optical effects projection, digital dimming and control interfaces for "Fragrant Harbour and the Nine Dragons" themed attraction for Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd. In this ride, visitors travel through narrow and mysterious streets encountering more than they had bargained for! Designers and Production Managers, Richard Crane Productions, Orlando, USA.

British Council, Delhi


Integrated systems package for 200 seat auditorium at British Council's award winning new headquarters building for India to specifications for Consultants Suri and Suri. Scope of works included rigging, stage equipment, drapes, stage lighting, communications, cine, video and slide projection.

TVRI Centre, Bandung


Studio suspension system comprising 38 self climbing lighting hoists, tracks, cyclorama and related electrical work for 350 sq m TV production studio under sub-contract to Quantel-Link Ltd. Also electrical distribution network for 180 channel lighting system.

Malaysia

Genting International Showroom, Genting Highlands


Stage rigging system for a new theatre restaurant constructed on the top floor of a hotel building, which is itself located at the peak of an 1800m high mountain. The rigging system includes single and double purchase counterweight sets , 25 fixed speed pile wind winches, Triple E curtain tracks, twin concentric stage revolve using customised Stage Technologies Revolution drives, a small chain drive effects elevator and customised controls. Work carried out under contract to Sum Poh Snd and valued at £600,000.

 

Petronas Towers Concert Hall Kuala Lumpur


Joint venture contract with local company PPC for theatrical machinery. Management contractor LMB; Theatre Consultants, Theatre Projects Consultant (USA); Acoustician, R Lawrence Kirkegaard. A significant stage engineering project, the natural acoustic properties of the hall are adjustable by means of a plunger ceiling, acoustic curtains and acoustic panels, all controlled from a customised computer system. The 130 tonne seven section ceiling with steel framework and precast GRG vaults has a vertical travel range of 6.0m using 56 screw jacks; incorporated in the ceiling are 79 actuator operated panels. The side walls are fitted with 130 sliding panels and 10 acoustic curtain tracks. Stage equipment includes 21 point hoists, orchestra platforms, loudspeaker hoists, projection screen and piano lift. Principal subcontractor J R Clancy. Contract value £3.3million.

 

Dewan Undagan, Alor Setar


Production lighting control system for multi-purpose theatre comprising 240 channel Applause lighting control, backup and rigger's remote controls with 144 dimmers and 12 non-dims. Architectural lighting control for banquet and other public areas consists of a Strand Premiere system and 126 dimmers.

 

RTM, Kuala Lumpur


Lighting and mechanical package for renewal of Radio Television Malaysia Studios 1 and 4 in association with Link Digital (Asia Pacific) Sdn Bhd. Imported equipment includes 49 self-climbing hoists, Arri Imagine and Mirage controls and dimmers, 150 Quartzcolor studio luminaires, Ultra-Arc followspots, cyclorama and tracks. On-site installation work covers structural steelwork, electrical contracting, studio flooring, acoustic claddings for walls and ceilings, studio doors and refurbishment of control and dimmer rooms.

 

Son et Luminaire, Malacca


Project management, engineering and installation supervision services for permanent Son et Luminaire for Ministry of Tourism under sub-contract to Philips Malaysia. Also supply of electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, cabling, standby diesel generating plant, control and dimmer racks.
